Risks and dangers of excessive consumption of sodas and sugary soft drinks

When it is hot, especially in summer, we look refreshing drinks. We then tend to choose sodas or sugary sodas. But what are the risks and dangers associated with excessive consumption of such beverages? DocteurBonneBouffe made a point:

SWEET DRINKS: SUGAR MAIN SOURCE FOR OUR BODY

While in 1900 the average sugar consumption was about 2.27 pounds per person per year, at present, the statistics show that we consume about 81 pounds per person per year! An astounding finding, the consequences flowing into the world rise in obesity, increased diabetes type diseases, etc.

One of the main reasons for this high sugar consumption is partly the consumption of sugary soft drinks has exploded in recent decades. Thus, sugary drinks have become the main source of sugar in our diet, representing on average 10% of the daily energy needs of an individual (which is obviously too!).

RISKS RELATED TO EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION AND SOFT DRINKS SOFT DRINKS SWEET RISK OF OBESITY

Beverages known as "fruity" provide no micro-nutrient (or vitamins, or minerals). Nutritive value of substantially zero, they contain mainly water and sugar added in the form of high fructose corn syrup. This is called a calorie "empty."

In addition, they bring us sugar quantity too high relative to our needs. An average of a single bottle of sugary drink 490 ml size (size), up to 12 teaspoons of sugar, representing a total of 200 to 240 calories! These drinks are true "liquid candy" so regular consumption of these drinks is a real problem facing the prevalence of obesity.

According to studies, consumption of at least one sugary drink per day in adults results in a 27% increase in the risk of obesity or overweight. While in children, the daily consumption of at least one sugary drink increases the risk of overweight 60%.

RISK OF DIABETES AND HEART DISEASE (CORONARY HEART DISEASE)

The consumption of sugary soft drinks is also linked to an increased risk of diabetes. According to studies, the consumption of at least one sugary drink per day for adult enough to double the risk of diabetes.

The consumption of these drinks is also associated with heart disease, such as heart disease that cause impairment of blood flow through the arteries obstruation. Thus, the consumption of at least one sweet drink per day for adults would result in a 40% increase in the risk of coronary heart disease.

RISK OF OSTEOPOROSIS

To fizz, industrial added in beverages phosphoric acid. This acid tends to burn our bowels and upset the balance of our organization, particularly in terms of calcium. However, calcium is necessary for our body to restore proper pH balance in the blood or strengthen our bones. Many studies have confirmed the link between the consumption of drinks' type Cola "and bone fractures (Journal of Adolescent Health, 1994). The presence of phosphoric acid can therefore lead to the weakening of the skeletal structure and thus to osteoporosis.

Pepsi and aspartame in the United States

Pepsi has received many requests of American consumers. The food group PepsiCo announced abandon the use of aspartame in the production of its drinks without sugar or calories. The former star sweetener will be replaced by the particular sucralose marketed in France under the name Canderel.

This decision concerns his drink Pepsi Light (Diet Pepsi in the US) and applies for the time in the US, its biggest market. "Consumers drink without sugar in the United States told us they wanted Pepsi Light aspartame and we will offer them," said one official.

Some studies accuse aspartame carcinogen

The decision comes at a difficult time for PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, whose sales of sodas slipping due to consumer fears about the risks they pose to human health.
Aspartame is especially at the center of controversy. Some studies accuse such as being carcinogenic, that Coca-Cola rejects. Consumers, they prefer to consume less: sales celebrities sugar-free beverages made with aspartame (Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi) are dropping. They were down nearly 7% last year.

Diabetes how to lower blood sugar?

Too much sugar ... show your latest tests. Should we decide to take medication every day? Other means they are used to reduce this excess sugar that damages the arteries?

At what level of sugar in the blood should we be wary?

A sugar (glucose) greater than 1.26 g / l (after at least 6 hours of fasting) indicates diabetes. However, it is necessary to verify this result several times to be sure. But from a value of 1 g / l fasting, beware. A blood glucose between 1 and 1.26 g / l already reveals IGT: the pancreas to secrete any penalty insulin required to maintain normal blood sugar. Which is essential to preserve its organs. After 45 years, in a family where there are diabetics, it is advisable to assay blood glucose regularly: every two years or every year.

No more pastries, honey in place of sugar ... is this enough?

Certainly, the way one eats influences diabetes. But there is no question of setting up a scheme or completely eliminate sugar from your diet. To treat diabetes of maturity, it is even more important to reduce fat than sugar. Autority gives three main advice: do not snack between meals, do not skip meals (so do three meals a day) and reduce fat. Sugar side basically requires avoid drinks or very sweet foods, such as sodas, desserts Trade, honey every day ... But a pastry Sunday or from time to time, it is not against inappropriate.

How can physical activity to lower blood sugar?

The physical effort consume sugar, since it is the fuel of our muscles! It also reduces stress and lose weight. However, there is evidence that the loss of a few pounds already lowering sugar levels in the blood. The studies above show the beneficial effect of physical activity on reducing the risk of diabetes and its complications. The ideal is to practice 30 minutes of sustained activity on (brisk walking or other) every day. But it must be done within its means. If we did nothing and we begin to walk 10 to 15 minutes every day, it will already have an impact. There are also gardening, swimming, cycling, walking the dog ... What matters is consistency. BLOOD SUGAR DEFINITION, NORMAL RATE AT EMPTY STOMACH AFTER MEAL, STATES AND CHANGE

Blood glucose, also called "sugar" or "glucose" in the blood can also vary among diabetic person for several reasons: food, treatment situations .... Achieving glycemic control is essential for good live his diabetes every day.

In the body, the blood sugar regulation is achieved through an ongoing balance between different mainly hormonal substances.

Hypoglycemia, normal glucose, fasting hyperglycemia.
Achieve glycemic control involves understanding
mechanisms and circumstances that influence blood sugar.

Substances, which modify the blood glucose
Some substances such as insulin are lower blood sugar, while others, such as glucagon, adrenaline or growth hormone, are increasing. Diet and exercise also affect blood sugar.

Failure of the security system
In a person without diabetes, insulin production by the pancreas follows the curve of blood glucose. There thus exists a safety system that prevents the blood sugar to become too low. But for a person with diabetes, this security system has to be adjusted continuously, regardless of treatment. Be careful though, too much insulin intake can cause hypoglycemia and an insufficient amount can lead to hyperglycemia. The dosage of the drugs in people with diabetes is therefore essential for blood sugar control.

Circumstances where blood sugar varies
In some circumstances of everyday life, blood glucose can vary greatly. Intense physical activity can lead to hypoglycemia (because the simple act of moving helps to lower blood sugar). Some thrills and emotions (infection, pain, stress, intense joy or sadness (with the announcement of a good or bad news, for example) do, however, raise the blood sugar. And yes, even love at first sight may be hyperglycaemic!

If blood sugar plays yoyo
Sometimes the body does not react as usual and blood glucose play yoyo. To understand these changes, we must learn to know themselves through SMBG and exchange observations with their doctor. Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia are scary (especially the latter). We must understand the origins to better anticipate and correct.

Regular checks to monitor these variations. By adopting good behavior, you will avoid more easily lows and highs.

Diabetes, conventional wisdom and popular belief

"There is no difference between a diabetic insulin and non-insulin dependent diabetes"
Diabetic insulin is characterized by a lack of insulin secretion, whereas for non-insulin dependent diabetic insulin is secreted but it "works" evil. This translates into a difference of treatment and diet.

"Diabetes is a disease affecting the regulation of blood sugar. Since there is no sugar in butter, deli meats and oils, I can continue to eat regularly "
In view of the complications associated with diabetes (atherosclerosis, angina, myocardial ...), for the purpose of prevention, it is better to strongly limit this type of product without sugar but high fat and high in energy.

"I love chocolate and I can not live without it so I take the light chocolate contains less sugar"
Be curious to compare the nutritional values of a chocolate "normal" and a chocolate "light", you will see that there are very few differences between the two products. So if you can not live without chocolate, buy chocolate "normal" (it's cheaper) and eat it in moderation (1-2 squares, 10 g to 20 g per day), with meals

"I am with type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent) so I have to remove all sugars from my diet"
No, we must limit it is certain but never remove drastically because it leads to overconsumption of fats harmful for cardiovascular health.

"I'm diabetic insulin so I can not do sports because I risk hypoglycemia"
Physical activity and sport are recommended in diabetics as they allow for blood sugar regulation.
To avoid hypoglycaemia during the activity, simply to increase its intake of carbohydrates in the meal before or decrease the dose of insulin injected.

Diet for insulin-dependent diabetic

Insulin-dependent diabetes (or type 1) is characterized by a lack of insulin secretion. It affects mainly people under 20 years old and its treatment is to inject insulin subcutaneously at different times of the day (one injection in the morning and before each meal is the most common solution). A slightly adapted diet is necessary to avoid the appearance of more or less serious complications (hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, blindness, atherosclerosis, ...). It is characterized by a low glycemic index.

List of recommended and not recommended foods

Diabetes: lifestyle advice

Make 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) + 1-2 snack (s) that is (are) optional (s) for an input of energy and regular and adequate carbohydrates during the day. And this to allow a maintenance of blood glucose within normal limits.
Consume 3-4 servings of dairy a day to have an adequate intake of calcium (bone turnover) and secondarily in good quality protein (renewal of all body tissues). These products will be little or no sweetened with table sugar. It will, against possible to use a sweetener (aspartame for example).

Consume 1 serving of meat or fish or eggs (OPV) for lunch and dinner for their intake of quality protein (renewal of all body tissues) and certain vitamins and minerals (iron, vitamins, necessary for the ... proper functioning of the body).

Eat starchy foods at every meal, preferring those rich in fiber (legumes, whole-grain bread, sound) and pasta. These foods will help a small increase in blood glucose after ingestion.

Consume 5-6 servings of vegetables (vegetables and fruits) raw and cooked daily for their low carbohydrate and fiber intake which limit the rise in blood sugar with food. And also vitamin C which has an anti-infective action that helps prevent complications.

Limit your intake of saturated fats (which promote the onset of cardiac complications) found in cheese, meat, butter, chocolate, mayonnaise, lard and tallow.
And favor unsaturated fats (which prevent the onset of cardiac complications) found in fatty fish (salmon, eel, mackerel, sardines) and vegetable oils (olive, canola, walnuts, soybeans).
In practice this amounts to a butter micro-shelf (about 10 g) at breakfast and 1 to 2 tablespoon (s) tablespoons of oil per person per meal. For fatty fish, a food frequency 1 to 2 times per week is recommended.

Drink at least 2 liters of water per day on a regular basis because our body is composed of more than 70% water, water being the only essential drink.

Make at least 1 time a day at least 30 minutes of physical activity (brisk walking, dog walking, stairs, avoid taking the bus ...) or 3 times a week for at least 1 hour of sports (jogging, cycling, fitness, sports collective, ...). This will help you regulate your blood sugar.

Diabetes and alcohol

Alcohol consumption is possible for the diabetic but should be moderate and be in accordance with certain rules.

The World Health Organization (WHO) distinguishes two types of alcohol consumption: the moderate use and harmful use. It defines the harmful use of alcohol as' excessive consumption to the point that it causes damage to health and often also undesirable social consequences ".

The Health Authority includes binge drinking (more than three glasses of wine per day for men and more than two glasses of wine per day for women), the risk factors for type 2 diabetes. In addition, lifestyle advice recommended in the treatment of disease recommend a reduction in alcohol consumption.

The effects of alcohol on the body are many and some of them will disrupt blood sugar regulation, and, particularly in diabetic patients. Alcohol disrupts the synthesis of glucose in the liver. The amount of glucose available will be limited. Then there is a significant risk of hypoglycemia. This risk will persist for several hours after consumption of alcoholic beverages. If this consumption is fasting, the risk of hypoglycemia increases.

Alcohol alters sensory perception. The signs of hypoglycemia may go undetected and thus constitute a significant risk to the patient.

In addition, a higher alcohol consumption to three glasses a day increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, myocardial infarction or cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Diabetes is also a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Alcohol is not recommended in patients with diabetes.
Finally, it is also necessary to take into account the sugar in drinks such as cocktails or non-alcoholic beer, which has a larger amount than in a classic beer for example.

RECOMMENDATIONS ON CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IN THE DIABETIC

The National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (INPES) and the Health Authority recommends moderate alcohol consumption, namely:
- In cases of regular consumption, no more than two standard drinks (or units of alcohol) per day on average for women and no more than three standard drinks a day on average for men.
- In the case of occasional consumption, no more than four standard drinks on a single occasion.

Finally, it is recommended to avoid alcohol at least one day a week.

These recommendations are intended for the general population but also apply to the diabetic patient. However, for the diabetic certain additional measures must be applied. Alcohol consumption should always be accompanied by a meal to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. It is also necessary to adjust blood sugar based on their alcohol intake and monitor more frequently than usual.

Finally, all alcohols do not provide the same amount of sugar. Thus, we must focus on the so-called alcohol "dry" such as red or white wines, spirits or those containing a larger amount of carbohydrates, such as beer or sweet wines. Alcohol should not be consumed in excess in order to always be able to control his blood sugar.

Nine plants prevent diabetes

Diabetes is considered a disorder of metabolism. It is a chronic disease that has no cure but can learn to control. Diabetes is caused by lack of insulin or malfunction. It is produced by the pancreas. It is this that allows glucose (sugar) to enter cells to produce energy. When this disorder is installed, glucose does not serve as source of energy to cells. It accumulates in the blood. This then results in an increase in the level of sugar called hyperglycemia. High sugar levels in the blood can then cause damage in the eye, heart, kidney ...

Here are nine plants incorporate into your diet or in addition, you have diabetes or if you want to prevent it.

Gymnema sylvestris
Hindi name of this plant translates as "sugar destroyer", and the plant is known to lower blood glucose levels. It is considered one of the most powerful plants for the control of blood glucose. Its action increases the activity of enzymes that help cells to receive glucose or stimulate insulin production. The advantage of Gymnema sylvestris is that it causes little or no side effects.

Bitter melon
Bitter melon (momordica), and aptly named, is known to help cells use glucose more efficiently and promote the absorption of sugar from the intestines. Filipino researchers have highlighted its benefits in a large study of men and women: they had to take bitter melon in capsule form for three months. Their blood sugar was lower than those who took a placebo. Beware though, taking bitter melon may cause gastrointestinal disturbances.

Prickly pear
The ripe fruit of this cactus can reduce sugar levels in the blood. This fruit lowers blood sugar levels probably because some of its components operate in the same way as insulin. The fruit is also rich in fiber.

Blueberry
This blueberry parent contains powerful antioxidants in the fruit and leaves. These anti -oxydants, called anthocyanins, which give color to red fruits, appears to reduce the damage caused by the small vessels that can cause nerve pain and retinopathy (damage to the retina of the eye).
Other international studies have suggested that bilberry helps to lower blood sugar.

Gingeng
Known for his virtues on the immune system and the fight against disease, this Chinese herb has been the subject of numerous studies on the positive effects on diabetes. The ginseng slowed carbohydrate absorption, increases the cell's ability to utilize glucose and increases insulin secretion from the pancreas. When we have done tests with a group taking ginseng and placebo group, those who took ginseng had lower blood sugar levels of 15 to 20% compared to those who took a placebo.

Fenugreek
These seeds, used in Indian cooking, are known to lower blood sugar levels, increase insulin sensitivity, and reduce high cholesterol, according to several studies in animals and humans. Its action is due in part to the high fiber content of the seed. The seeds also contain an amino acid that stimulates insulin release. In one of the largest studies on fenugreek, 60 people who took 25 grams per day of fenugreek showed significant improvements in glycemic control and post-meal spikes.

Chamomile and chamomile tea
It has been shown that drinking tea with chamomile allowed for lowering blood sugar and thus prevent the progression of type 2 diabetes and prevent some of the damage associated with high levels of sugar in the blood.
Drink chamomile tea before or after a meal can help you control your sugar levels in the blood.

Tulsi tea leaves - holy basil tea
The tulsi, also known as holy basil, basil is a species close to our basil used in Western cooking. It is traditionally used in India for its powerful medicinal properties, especially for treating type 2 diabetes Tulsi helps lower blood sugar, like chamomile, and reduce stress and anxiety and to protect the body against damage caused by stress.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a common spice and whose flavor is appreciated. It has shown considerable efficacy in lowering blood sugar. If you have or are at risk for type 2 diabetes, or if you want to moderate your blood sugar levels for other reasons, such as excessive consumption of sugar, it can not hurt you to include cinnamon in your dishes, desserts ... You can also dip a stick of cinnamon in your tea, or use it in powder form. Be sure to use pure cinnamon and no cinnamon sugar, if you obviously do not want to add sugar to your diet. Cinnamon is a naturally sweet spice, even if it does not contain sugar!

Will the stem cells to cure or improve diabetes type 1 or 2. If so, when?

Theoretically, yes stem cells will cure diabetes and to improve. Type 1 diabetes is a destruction of the beta cells that produce insulin. If we are able to reproduce, to remanufacture the body itself is perfect and it particularly interesting. But it is very complicated because diabetes is an autoimmune disease, that is to say that there is an immune destruction. If replicated cells, there is no reason that they are not attacked again. In one animal is capable of reproducing these cells, but in humans it is necessary that this manufacturing cells is well regulated, because it should not have a flood of insulin, which can cause fatal hypoglycemic coma.

Therefore cells that normally function and then it is not necessary that disease recurrence. We are therefore in a big subject that is the same as transplant rejection, and other autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, is that we can manipulate the immune system to a tolerance of a transplanted external or tolerance of its own cells when they are attacked by the immune system. This is a subject that advance and is not unique to diabetes. This gives a lot of hope because there is a lot of financial resources and many researchers on this topic.

However the idea of a semi-artificial pancreas is more likely and will probably be faster to implement. This semi-artificial pancreas can automatically regulate blood sugar for a sugar in the morning on waking satisfactory.

Get rid of his addiction to sugar

Like many people, I was addicted to sugar for years. I was eating sugar all the time and found it hard, once I started to stop. If I had something sweet in the morning, then I wanted more sugar in the afternoon and again after dinner. It was ridiculous, really, but I could not resist.
I noted that I was depressed and anxious without really knowing why. I became irritable and rude to my friends and family. I lost my temper easily and I realized I was feeling worn out and got sick frequently.

As I watched these symptoms at home, I began to notice similar symptoms in my patients. In addition to the symptoms I noted in my house, they suffered from chronic fatigue, gas, constipation and skin problems. I was looking for something in common that could explain these shared symptoms.

It turned out that the common thread was the sugar. They described all their craving for sweet foods and how much it was hard to resist those cravings. As a nutritionist, I knew I had a better understanding of how sugar was on our bodies.

The more I studied, the more I was scared. The research I found comparing sugar heroin in the way it was produced and that in which it was used. I found studies showing that sugar weakens the brain, disturbed body functions, withdrawing calcium to the body, attacking the body's mineral reserves and leaving a depression and obesity and led the cells to death. I was horrified.
My research led me to one conclusion: the sugar acts as a poison.

Refined sugar is stripped of all its nutrients. To absorb this substance that has no nutrients our body must use its own reserves of vitamins and minerals.

When the body is looking for nutrients to use, it is the key minerals such as calcium from the bones and teeth. Calcium is the mineral first used by the body to neutralize strong acids in cells, we may be left with "toxic" minerals when not rest enough calcium to fight these strong acids. This may cause plaque problems, osteoporosis, arthritis, kidney stones, and even harden the arteries. Sugar affects our blood composition.

Enzymes are unable to do their job with missing minerals. The imbalance that is created, disrupts digestion. When these poorly digested food arrive in the bloodstream, they can become a target for our own immune system, which interprets it as a "foreign" substance. It is then easy to get sick when your immune system is too busy fighting elsewhere in order to ward off diseases.

Because sugar is so hard to take in, the body has to use a lot of vitamins and minerals to just try to use this toxin. A sudden influx of sugar, even just a tablespoon creates tension in the body. He takes everything he has, such as sodium, magnesium and potassium, just to restore balance. In other words, sugar creates a chaotic mess in our bodies and deprives us of much of our healthy resources.

Sugar does not stop there either. First, it is stored in our liver as glycogen. But with a daily diet of refined sugar, liver swells. This causes a sugar back - now in the form of fatty acids - which flows into the blood. And where is he then? The answer, annoying and frustrating, is that it goes directly into inactive areas such as the hips, buttocks, stomach and thighs.

Eating sugar kills good (or symbiotic) bacteria, which are necessary for the intestines.

Depression, fatigue and confusion may result from this reaction. The brain needs glutamic acid to function properly. Vitamin B helps glutamic acid to divide the answers "stop-go" of the brain. Without the good bacteria to treat vitamin B, insomnia, forgetfulness and even disorder for simple calculations can occur. In the long term, this can lead to Alzheimer's disease or dementia and depression ...

Raymond Francis, a graduate and expert in Science vitamins, explains the addictive qualities of sugar: "The animal studies show that regular consumption of sugar causes long-term changes in brain composition, similar to that caused by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. These changes indicate that even a single exposure to sugary, salty or greasy can change gene expression by stimulating opioids in the brain. These chemicals are addictive pleasures. "

Half of the ingredients used in breakfast cereals are sugar, and 2/3 cup (160ml approx) of a Fruit flavored yogurt contains 7 teaspoons of sugar. A bowl innocent of tomato soup can contain 8 teaspoons of sugar and a small bottle of orange juice can contain 10.5! It is not surprising that many of us were suffering from this insidious addiction.

What? Go to work without my latte? Do not eat the cinnamon bun while rushing you out. Avoid anything that contains refined white sugar.
Millions of conscious eaters calories, frightened by eating sugar, turned to chemical sweeteners to replace. But if sweeteners are better, why nobody gets thinner?

The good news is that there are many alternatives to refined sugars and with a few tips, you can get rid of your sugar habit. You can add good things to your plate or in your glass. Start making juice.

I make juice for 15 years and I can not stress enough that keeping your liquid diet in the morning is a great way to help your body repair cycles. Imagine what it would be to drink some of the most beneficial components, such as liquid sunshine. Do you remember how good it is to feel the sun on your skin?

Like many of my clients, I like to start the day with a glass of drink green cleaning through all these alkalizing minerals found in green leaves. Plus it's green, the better.

Green juices are fantastic for the morning. Because our bodies are generally much too acidic, green juice bring us a balanced way to help eliminate all the bad things as they are replaced with good ones.

Yes, smoothies are great for breakfast, and they are much better than cereals that contain 50% sugar. If you want to stop having these desires, green drinks are your magic potion.

The more your unhealthy habits are, the faster you will see the signs of aging. The connection between diet, health and aging is not a new discovery. I came to realize that the only way to ensure a long and healthy life is to limit the amount of food that I ingest daily.

But that does not mean you have to deprive yourself. The key is to know that some of the foods we eat make us sick. They can even kill us. The experts know and understand the need for thousands of years of healthy food.

Nobody says that such changes in lifestyle and eating habits are easy. There is no doubt that this is a difficult and a challenge for most of us. This involves not only physical activity but also the determination and perseverance. Each component of a healthy lifestyle - eating right, exercise, avoid smoking and drinking alcohol (and the list) - has a huge impact on our health and well-being.

Instead of looking for pills that mask the cause of our distress, we must learn to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us.

The best way to take care of us is to engage in a healthy approach to our problems.

This approach should be natural and effective by including preventive medicine as a way of life. Those who practice preventive health approaches are enjoying the happiest and healthiest lives resulting in more positive and productive attitudes ...

Will sugar make us addicted?

Carbohydrates, refined, red, glycemic index ... If your vocabulary on glucose grows, you still struggling to see through all that. And you also start asking you questions about your diet. Which sugars avoid? What risks in your organization? Can I become addicted to sugar?

First, we must discern the "good" sugars "bad." The most dangerous are the refined sugars called sugars, or modified industrially. White sugar, which makes up about 90% of our consumption, is one. With him the brown sugar, brown sugar or brown sugar. They are the leading cause of many diseases related to lifestyle (diabetes, cholesterol increased, obesity, decreased immune function, cancer ...). It is thus considered as a real sugar drug that you have to know detoxify. To help you, we will explain everything you need to know about glucose.

Slow and fast sugars sugars

Recently criticized by nutritionists and doctors, the notion of "sugars" and "complex carbohydrates" changes gradually. Today, instead of classifying each food according to their nature, they are arranged according to their glycemic index - or the assimilation rate of a carbohydrate by the body (see below). The carbohydrates are assimilated slowly by the body and are essential to our bodies, and sugars, in contrast, are metabolized too quickly to be useful to him.

Simple sugars (contained in confectionery, pizza, industrial flat, white sugars ...) cause excessive blood glucose levels in the blood and require metabolism to regulate. Consumed in large quantities, they also create an effect "yoyo" on the body that oscillates between hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, and damages the cells in the long term.

Carbohydrates, in turn, serve as fuel and give your body the energy it requires. You will find them mainly in starches and whole grain breads. Essential to a healthy diet (especially sports), it must nevertheless be careful not to abuse it, and always balanced meals.

The glycemic index

As explained above, the glycemic index (or GI) is the new way - more precisely - to classify foods. It measures the ability of a carbohydrate to raise more or less glucose in the blood and thus its rate of absorption in the body. 100 is used (pure glucose) to benchmark and compared it each nutrient.

The higher the glycemic index, the higher the food is quickly absorbed by the body and he is useless - or worse. However, when the glycemic index is low, considering that the food is slow and good for the body. Thus, over 70 is called simple sugars, below 70 carbohydrates.

Attention should be aware that the IG also changes depending on how the food is cooked. Potato steam, for example, has a GI of 70 while potato baked has a GI of 95. The raw carrot glycemic index represents 30 against 85 when it is cooked (see table here).

How to wean?

It speaks well for withdrawal, just like a drug, sugar is addictive and difficult nutrient to banish from his diet. More sugar you consume, the more you feel like it. To regain a healthy lifestyle, so you have truly detoxify you from all unnecessary doses of glucose and especially harmful.

- Start with already reduced gradually your amount of sugar daily. Replace it with a fruit taste that will bring you satisfaction while keeping a low to moderate glycemic index (GI single ripe banana is high (65)).
- Get rid definitely substitutes for sugar and other sweeteners bad for health.
- Go for a pure detox and lasts from a few days to make your job easier in your fight against sugar.

In the end, what sugars to keep?

We repeat: Farewell refined sugars (white sugar, red, blonde, brown sugar, brown sugar ...) and artificial sweeteners (including aspartame) that can be found in the so-called "light". Industrial, they contain no substances beneficial to the body and are found in calories and very addictive.

Prefer to use the whole cane sugar, black treacle, or foods naturally composed of glucose as honey and syrups (stevia, cereal, maple, rice or agave). Alternatives that bring you the desired sweetness without causing damage to your body.

You are now adorned for addressing the sugar in a different way by knowing its dangers. And if you want more information on that subject:

Addicted to sugar, 5 keys to serve you urgently!

Eat less sweet

You have desires, impulses, sweet cravings and you want better control?
You are right, for know that, sugar, the more you eat, the more you'll want. First, it is important to understand why you have these cravings. I give you some tips to cure your sweet cravings!
Anyway, keep in mind that refined sugar is now the leading cause of many diseases related to our lifestyle. Diabetes, cholesterol increased, obesity, decreased immune function, cancer ...

The Sugar call the sugar

The first thing to know is that our body is not designed to eat refined sugars. When you eat something sweet, you make up your blood sugar (= sugar levels in the blood) abnormally high.
If this rate rises too high, it becomes dangerous. Your body, this highly sophisticated machine will then produce a hormone called insulin, whose role is to lower the blood sugar.
Plus you'll eat sugar, the more insulin will be strong, and blood sugar levels will drop ... And the result of all this is called a reactive hypoglycemia: a few hours after eating sugar, you will a blow bar and a craving, compulsive sweet cravings. So remember this phrase, I repeat all the time to my coached: sugar called sugar!

Top 5 of my tips to reduce your sugar intake

As you can see, it's important to stay away from refined and processed products. Weaning is a difficult journey it will take place in stages in order not to "explode" psychologically.
Here are my tips for overcoming personal consumption of excess sugar:
Gradually reduce your intake of simple carbohydrates (sodas, sweets, refined grains).
Identify good contributions in complex carbohydrates and fiber (whole grains, legumes, fruits).
Do a Detox (read my article on the mono-diet, a 3 day detox) that will help you tremendously in weaning.
If you really feel the need, prefer eating some sweet product after a meal.
People often ask me what I think sugar substitutes, including sweeteners. My advice is to get away from it as possible, especially aspartame, which despite claims by the authorities, is harmful to health.

Flee light products!

Some of my coached complained of not being able to lose or stabilize their weight. After a thorough review of their cases, I realized that these people were big consumers of sweeteners and light products.
If these products contain no or very few calories, they send the same answers as sugar to the body. They leave the doors wide open storage and maintain addiction sweetness.
Be sure to reduce significantly and failing, opt for natural sweeteners like stevia or agave syrup.

How to detoxify the pancreas?

The pancreas is a teardrop-shaped organ that lies in the duodenum, which is essential for digestion and to produce enzymes. If he is intoxicated or inflamed, foods then become difficult to digest. So it is worth to take care of and make a cleansing diet occasionally.

The purifier system for pancreatic

How our pancreas can it ignite or intoxication? Our diet is always the first factor when our organs begin to function less well. But there are also external elements, as found in the environment, which can alter their functionality. All this causes hormonal imbalances in the pancreas as well as diseases such as diabetes. The pancreas must be detoxified regularly to stay healthy. Here we will explain how.

Say Goodbye to toxins through medicinal plants

The first step to respect to purify the pancreas is the elimination of alcohol, tobacco, and all that is akin to junk food in our diet. We know that quitting smoking is always difficult but it is worth it. These are years of life than we earn. Also reduce ingestion of flour, sugar, cakes, etc. All this will make you feel much better. There are also a number of wonderful herbs that help to purify the pancreas.

Ginger tea: it désenflamme, purify our body. It is also a good sedative and antioxidant.

Green tea: you can take breakfast or afternoon. He brings a great dose of fantastic antioxidants that purify the pancreas.

The infusion licorice: This is a very digestible root that promotes the production of bile, which helps to digest food. It is ideal.

Water and adequate juice

It would be ideal to follow this detoxing diet for at least 10 days. Start the day with a glass of lemon juice and warm water, a kiwi and a cup of oats. It is necessary to drink each day two liters of water and eat before all fruit and vegetables. Increase your dose of green vegetables rich in vitamin B, and all these antioxidants and fruit full of vitamins, such as papaya, orange, strawberries. Pineapple and papaya juice are also recommended for the pancreas, although the kiwifruit is by far the most suitable fruit.

The benefits of a shower or a hot bath

Perhaps this will surprise you, but take a shower or a hot bath every day stimulates our digestion and improves the health of the pancreas. This enables operation. Don't hesitate to take a warm bath before going to bed, it will relax you and help you get to sleep more easily, and more significantly enable the features of the pancreas.

Listen to your emotions and reduce stress

It may seem silly and yet it is not. Keep in mind that through periods of anxiety or stress will increase the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. This causes a lot of damage in us. Negative emotions, worries alter our basic functions, affecting digestion, for example, raising the risk of inflammation in our intestines, our colon etc. All this will also generate disturbances in the pancreas, which can stop release enzymes in our stomach. This must be taken into account: so try to relax, take time for you to walk, eat well ... Finally, take care of your pancreas does not cost anything.

Foods that help to better support diabetes

Our health depends intimately on what is in our plate. Endocrinologists give us their nutritional advice for diabetics.

Vitamins and Trace Elements (Dietary mineral)

If there is no anti-diabetic food, we know that certain nutrients will better regulate the effects of this disease. They are different depending on the type of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes, the most common, is the most sensitive to food. It affects older people, but also more and more younger people are overweight. In this case, the rule is to restrict calories, avoiding foods high in sugar and fat, but taking three or four meals a day. We recommend to focus on vegetables, including endive, green beans, tomatoes, eggplants, which are low in calories and filled in fiber. Vegetables have virtues provide vitamins and trace elements and to slow the absorption of glucose. Protein foods must be as bold as possible: fish, poultry such as turkey, guinea fowl, chicken are best indicated but, in moderate amounts, beef or veal. However, the meat of lamb or pork should be avoided. The ideal is to cook grilled, steamed or in foil. It is recommended milk and low fat dairy products, which provide a significant source of protein and calcium. Whey has anti-diabetic properties due to a beneficial effect on insulin secretion.

Limit starchy

We advise to limit - but not eliminate - starches, bread, potatoes, pasta, that facilitate weight gain because they contain too much sugar. In 1 kg of bread, there is 500 g of sugar, and 1 kg of pasta or rice contains 700 g. Is preferable rye bread to white bread, black rice to white rice: they have a hyperglycaemic slower.

Fruit, yes, but not all !

Sugar, jam, honey and of course all sodas, sugary drinks and fruit juices should be avoided. All these foods release too much glucose, which will cause blood sugar spikes and seek the release of insulin promotes fat storage. Also, beware of canned and ready meals, which concentrate hidden sugars, and low-fat products, although low in fat but rich in sugar.
The fruits are necessary, but attention to their sugar content. Watermelon, apples, strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants are welcome. But beware of figs, raisins or cherries.

The system is different in the case of those affected by type 1 diabetes the pancreas secretes more insulin and the subject loses weight. It must have a varied diet with meat and starchy foods, but monitored. Fast sugars (pastries, soft drinks, jams ...) are forbidden to him.

Cinnamon, this spice stabilizes blood sugar

In one generation, the incidence of type 2 diabetes worldwide has increased fivefold. This is a disaster.

While our contemporaries think they can "cure" chemical swallowing pills, the truth is that treating diabetes is mostly a disease of lifestyle.

The main way to prevent diabetes is a diet low glycemic index, ie based foods that do not turn too quickly into glucose, and therefore does not cause brutal insulin spike.

But eating more cinnamon may also reduce your risk of diabetes, helping you to stabilize your blood sugar.

The BEST antioxidants

Cinnamon is one of the most antioxidant-rich plants in the world with an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity, a measure of antioxidant capacity in vitro) of 267.536, which is huge (one hundred times the grenade!).

She has been a near-reverence in most major civilizations for its warm, sweet taste and subtle aroma - which adds much to the pleasure of eating.

Cinnamon helps to stabilize blood sugar by stimulating insulin receptors and increase their sensitivity to this hormone that lowers blood glucose (sugar level in the blood). In response, the body needs less produce insulin to cause the same effect. This relieves the pancreas, stimulates metabolism, and reduces inflammation.

Cinnamon contains 0.5 to 1% of powerful essential oils known for their anti-microbial factors, very effective in stopping the growth of bacteria and yeast, including Candida albicans.

Cinnamon has three major oils which contain active compounds called cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate and cinnamyl alcohol. The cinnamic aldehyde has been studied by researchers for its ability to block the issuance of inflammatory agents in the cell membrane.

As if that was not enough, the only scent of cinnamon powerfully stimulates the brain regions of concentration and memory.

Treat your friends

Do not hesitate to sprinkle cinnamon many of your dishes.

If it is customary in Europe and North America, using cinnamon to sweet preparations (in cookies, apple pies on, compotes, on ice, in chocolate desserts) is Unlike in North Africa and East, where it is in savory dishes that it is the most widely used, particularly with meat and poultry (think delicious Moroccan pastilla).

Cinnamon powder resents overcooking. It is best to add it after cooking, unlike sticks that are more resistant to long cooking.

Put cinnamon in your dishes will delight your guests, because it is a stimulant of the salivary glands and gastric mucosa. Your guests will also be happier after your meal as cinnamon helps digestion, the expulsion of gas and calm the spasms of the stomach and intestines.

Cinnamon keeps cool, protected from light and sealed to reduce oxidation of its powerful nutrients. Cinnamon powder keeps 6 months, cinnamon sticks about a year. If your cinnamon has no sweet smell, you will unfortunately discard and replace.

What cinnamon choose?

Cinnamon, before being pulverized, is in the form of longitudinally wound rod as cigarette paper. This is actually pieces of dried bark of the cinnamon tree, a tree of the tropical parts of Asia.

The most popular are those cinnamon Ceylon and China, which produce different cinnamon from one to another.

Ceylon cinnamon is tan and rods are made of very thin layers. Chinese cinnamon is of a darker red color and the rods are thicker. The latter also has a more bitter taste less sweet.

The main difference between the two is the content of coumarin. Coumarin thins the blood and cinnamon China, also called "Brain" is much stronger coumarin and should be used in moderation compared to the true Ceylon cinnamon.

Half a teaspoon of cinnamon day is enough to reap all the benefits mentioned in this letter.

And finally, a little story ...

"Take a good bloody sheep neighborhood ..."

In the Encyclopedia Britannica, it is written that cinnamon was once more valuable than gold. It is true that Moses prescribed the use of cinnamon in the manufacture of the holy oil, and that King Solomon himself used it in his precious perfumes. Cinnamon was also the largest source of profit for the Dutch merchants of the East India Company (who knew it), but I doubt that this statement on gold and cinnamon of the Encyclopedia Britannica, which also not cite his sources, is accurate.

Anyway, my story is not from there but from Herodotus, the Greek historian who lived in the 5th century BC (it was he who told in his stories that the ancient Egyptians did everything backwards, and particularly how they urinate According to him, the men urinated sitting, standing women; it has nothing to do with cinnamon but it struck me when I read it, adolescent).

In ancient times, therefore, cinnamon was imported by caravans from mysterious and remote regions of Asia. Herodotus, who had never gone so far and wondered why cinnamon was so dear, had made explain it by a merchant joker:

According to him, no human knew whence cinnamon. By cons, large birds sewed in their nests flank too steep cliffs to be achieved by man.

The collection of this unique herb therefore required to charge large pieces of meat which, deposited at the foot of the mountain, were swept away by the great birds to their nests. Too fragile to support the extra weight, they collapsed, finally delivering their precious materials to harvest!
